About Assertiveness
Assertiveness is a communication skill and much needed to succeed and be happy in life. Like any skill it gets better with practice. Assertiveness helps children by:
- keeping away social anxiety
- making them self-aware
- helping them to expect positive responses.
Besides, healthy self-esteem is also a benefit of being assertive. We validate our perspective by expressing them to others and by honoring our own needs. This can make us feel good about ourselves. Hence, we can control our own lives rather than let someone else control it.
Further, building and maintaining relationships also becomes an easy task for assertive people. They respect each other, openly express their needs and tend to be elaborate & empathetic.
Help your child understand boundaries. This will help them in a big way when it comes to safeguarding their own physical, emotional, intellectual and sexual boundaries. Help them say ‘no’ boldly and firmly when required.
